The history of Villa “Beautiful View” (Villa Bellevue) dates back to the second half of the 19th century. The date of its construction is not exactly known, but the first mention of it appeared in the Elbląg address books in 1887. The building owes its name to its beautiful location – it is located on a large hill, from where there was once a wonderful view of Żuławy, Lake Druzno and surroundings. In the years 1887 – 1926, there was a restaurant in the villa, which changed its owners several times during this period. However, information provided by the former Elbląg press shows that from the moment of its official opening it enjoyed unflagging popularity among the inhabitants of Elbląg and the surrounding area. Numerous cultural events, concerts and feasts took place here. In 1927, the villa passed into the hands of a high chamber official and later rentier, Rudolf Grommelt, thus turning into a residential house for several families.
Both Villa Bellevue and the beautiful trees surrounding the building successfully survived World War II. In the post-war years, the villa served various functions. There were, among others, the headquarters of Elbląg scouts and the authorities of the People’s Sports Teams, as well as the Emergency Care Service. Unfortunately, the building has been without an owner since 2009, which is why it is slowly losing its former charm. In 2011, the property was purchased from the city through a tender, and its new owners gradually began to restore its former glory, rebuilding the damage caused by the passage of time.
In September 2018, after thorough revitalization under the supervision of a conservator, the works were completed and the newly established restaurant and hotel were reopened to guests.
